About Barbara

Barbara is the founder of Patience Unlimited Professional Dog Training, with more than 30 years of experience as a dog trainer and instructor. Barbara's career in dog training began in 1983 in New Jersey when a seven week old Doberman Pinscher entered her life. Her name was Patience. Patience Unlimited is a tribute to this extraordinary dog. Barbara followed the teachings of the late Job Michael Evans (Monks of New Skete) and continues to use many of his techniques. Education includes, but is not limited to, various seminars, apprentice work, self-study, training camps, and workshops. In 1987, Barbara attended the Volhard Motivational Method Dog Training Camp and Instructor School in New Hampshire with Patience and has been using the Volhard Method ever since. Even though Barbara has many tools to draw from, she finds her students to be the most successful with the Volhard Motivational Method, but will draw from these other tools when needed.

Barbara and her Doberman Pinschers have achieved titles with the AKC, UKC, DVG, ATTS, DPCA and Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. She started a R.E.A.D. Program for a local school in NJ in 2004 with her Doberman Jetta. Jetta received a Certificate of Honor with The AKC, Award for Canine Excellence (ACE Award) and a Certificate of Honor Centennial Service Award in the category of Therapy Dog with The DPCA.

Barbara and her Dobermans have also done commercial work; television commercials, music videos, and print ads for Animals for Advertising in NYC. Barbara's current Doberman, Cenza, is an AKC Breed Champion, ROM CD RA and is continuing to compete in AKC Obedience Trials. Since moving to Arizona in 2012, Barbara is honored to be training and competing in AKC Obedience with several Dobermans, from OR, NV, CA, and AZ. She is also thrilled to be instructing students here in Phoenix, so they may accomplish obedience titles on their own dogs. In addition to competing herself, Barbara conducts group classes and private lessons in all levels of competition obedience, including rally and pet obedience and behavior

Barbara is currently an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program, a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals, The Doberman Pinscher Club of America, and The Desert Valley Doberman Pinscher Club.

Barbara believes obedience training is the foundation for all dog sport venues. Whether competing or family pet Barbara educates dogs in how to live in a human family through the skills of basic obedience and also educates the owner in the world of their dog. Through these teachings, she has made obedience training fun and practical, so it will fit into her client's everyday life, so their dog then becomes a welcomed member of the family. Barbara has been blessed with unconditional love of wonderful dogs and, in return, has dedicated her career to improving the relationship between all dogs and owners that she has the privilege of knowing.
